ALAVA - Tourismo in Alava
The Historical Territory of Alava is Euskadi’s most extensive and varied.
The vegetation found on its mountains and plains ranges from beech and oak forests to wheat fields and vineyards.
Its terrain and towns harbour prehistoric and Roman remains; impressive heritage from the Middle Ages includes a string of hermitages and Romanesque churches associated with the route of St. James; the splendour of Renaissance and Baroque civil monuments, and the wealth resulting from industrialisation.
Alava is today a territory on the move. Its capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, which is also that of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, preserves the best of its past, each day adding new elements which make it a modern and dynamic city with its eye on the future.
