One afternoon at the end of March, 2003, thousands of people concentrated on the Abandoibarra esplanade.
They were eagerly awaiting the official opening of one of the works which most contributed to the renewal of Bilbao’s physiognomy, the landscaped promenade stretching from the Euskalduna Congress and Concert Hall to the Salve bridge, beyond the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum’s remarkable outline.
Several years of projects, building works and the usual difficulties for residents rendered a reward of the remodelling of an area over 40,000 square meters –to be extended in the future by another 8,000 square meters– on the Nervion riverfront.
