ALAVA - Sightseeing Vitoria-Gasteiz

> The new city

Over the past 50 years there has been a significant increase in the population of Vitoria-Gasteiz. The efforts made in pursuing urban development on a human scale that is capable of catering for such spectacular growth is apparent in the present-day expansion area.

Towards the northwest and taking the avenue, Avenida de Gasteiz, as its main axis and with largely modern architecture, it is the site of the Europa Congress and Exhibition Hall.

The surrounding area is occupied by the neighbourhoods of Ajuria, San Martín, Aranzabal and Lakua; well laid out blocks of flats, public buildings designed by today’s finest architects, wide streets, parks and garden areas that constitute the fabric of this new city.

An area that is exemplary in its planning and today competes in social terms with the central area of the Ensanche insofar as social and economic activity is concerned.
